A Letter To My Crappy Apartment Complex
Just thought I would share with the world how IRRITATED I am with my apartment complex. If they ignore THIS e-mail? I will post their name...
To Property Management,
I am on week three in my new apartment and I'm already planning on going apartment shopping! Besides a gaping hole in my wall that my bathtub is 'shoved into' in some vain attempt to block it (unsuccessfully I might add) I have been unable to clean myself in my own tub yet?!
Why is this? Because last week after having waited long enough (and been forced to use a friends shower for MY FIRST THREE WEEKS!!!) I decided I would just tough it out and get clean with a bath?! I fill the tub and as I go to sit down, water rises up to the overfill slot and promptly creates a river ACROSS MY BATHROOM FLOOR!? So that's a bathtub fail.
Well, after a few more days, I am left with a note on my door that it's been fixed. (lets forget that my apartment was left completely accessible to the public due to the bottom lock NOT working!)
So I decide to brave the tub again this morning. I turn the water on and step into the kitchen to start fixing breakfasn. A couple minutes later I step back in to check on the water, I barely have a couple inches of water in the tub but AMAZINGLY I have a meandering river across the floor of my bathroom?!? I haven't even climbed IN the tub yet and I'm already flooding the bathroom?!
At what point do I get my deposit back and my contract cancelled so I can find a habitable space to live?!
1) My power goes out daily now. Multiple times per day.
2) In order to flip the breaker to restore power to my place (which usually WON'T stay restored for more than a couple minutes anyway) I have to flip a breaker for apartment #2 because there ISN'T a breaker box for my apartment?!
3) My kitchen sink (up until a couple days ago) had a gaping wound in the wall underneath it. Now the only complaint I might have is the fact that it looks like it was used to clean paint buckets out. And the gaping wound of rust (and could that be tetanus?) that is an almost fair resemblance to a drain?
4) My bathtub has a non-standard fixture. When I previewed the apartment, there was a shower head. I am super curious as to what happened to THAT shower head?!? Trying to be a problem solver rather than a complainer, I headed out one weekend to find a shower adapter so I could take a shower like a normal person. 3 Walmarts, a Target, Lowes, Home Depot, Best Hardware and an Ace Hardware later and I'm just fine with being a complainer... Because no one sells adapters for the bathtub fixture in use at my apartment!!! WHY the last tenant took the one that was there I will never know? I can only imagine that it was to sell it to a museum as an ancient piece of plumbing maybe?! Needless to say? I cannot take a shower at my Apartment STILL!
5) My bathtub leaks. Whether you take a bath or just run water into it? Doesn't seem to matter. It leaks... All over my bathroom floor... I have YET to be able to use my own bathtub.
6) the door that you open to walk down to my apartment is almost impossible to open or close. Mainly because it's hanging 'barely' by it's hinges. Barely.
7) My apartment door (the one that opens directly into my apartment) has two locks on it. The bottom one doesn't work. Maintenance doesn't ever lock the top one. So basically, everytime maintenance comes over... My apartment is left with ease of entry to the general public.
8) I could go on, but why?! I am not a complainer! But I'm at the end of my rope?! I feel like my apartment is not liveable. Out of the three weeks I have been in it, I have been unable to even sleep there for about a week. Due to a gas leak (thank goodness I survived that?!?) and my power (and hence my HEAT!) going out!
I was told that things would be cleaned up and fixed but all I get are shortcuts. Has anyone in MANAGEMENT seen the 'wall' that was created to surround my tub? Words fail me, I can send pictures if needed. Lets not neglect to mention the "SOPPING WET RAG" that was shoved FURTHER into my wall before the gaping hole it was catching drips from was patched. I should mention now that the ceiling is starting to come apart again at that spot. Not surprised... But didn't anyone consider the mold factor when conducting that repair?!?
I either need some serious attention to be paid to my apartment or I need my deposit back along with a refund of this months rent and last months. I am so stressed, frustrated and now I'm fighting sick.
I work for the City and wanted an interesting apartment that was close to work and habitable. I got everything but the habitable... I am a horribly miserable tenant... Could -name removed for now- please live up to your end of the renters agreement?!?
Thank you
